Photoshoot

I was very pleased with my shoot with my model Cathy, she is a very good and cooperative model who is easy to work with.
I was pleased with the way her makeup looked as I hadn’t practised on her before, only on face charts and on myself a couple of times, but my designs really suited her face. For the first few photos I was testing the lighting to see how it looked.

The first few were very over exposed and out of focus a little.

However, once I got the lighting and the positioning of my model correct, the shots came out really nice. I loved the warm lighting on her face; it made her skin look really healthy and natural.

I really like the photo below and although it was taken quite early on in the shoot I really liked it. There is enough space above the models head for there to be the Givenchy name and logo and enough space for the product to go without it looking crowded. I love the lighting on her face, it looks really gentle and natural and it hi-lights her lips well.

This is a potential for one of my covers. There is enough negative space around the model to fill with the brand title and a picture of the product. Also because she is looking down, this helps to emphasise the makeup on her lips.

I really like the positioning and the composition of this photo, I like how she is looking into the light which helps to highlight all her makeup, this shot makes the advert all about the makeup which is important because the audience will only initially see either the large brand title or her face if they were to just walk past the advert or flick past it. I think this is a strong photo and a potential for my final image.

Although I really like this photo, I don’t think that I will be able to use it for my final look because of the positioning of my model in the frame. She is directly in the middle, which will make it difficult for it to look balanced once I put in the text and an image of the product, which is a shame because I really like this photo.

However this photo is in focus anyway.

I really like this photo as I have a lot of space on the left for the text and a picture of the product, and I love the pose of the model, she is looking down so all the focus is on her lips which is important.

But unfortunately I cannot use this one as its out of focus again.

In the studio I changed the neckline on her top and put a gold necklace on her, this brought out the gold on her lips and eyes and although this photo is a like dark it has helped to bring the photo together.  I will see if this photo can be lightened in Photoshop, but I am really pleased with the frame of this photo, the models pose and the lighting, although it is a little dark.

This photo is however a little out of focus.

I really like the pose in this photo, I like how symmetrical her face is and how she’s looking straight down the camera and is making good eye contact with the audience.

In these later photos I thought that maybe the lighting was a little dark, although I loved the chiaroscuro lighting effect and how only half of her face was lit, it made it seem dark and mysterious, I thought that if I introduced a second light to light the darker side of her face it would help a lot.  This helps to stand out from the background some more and emphasises her makeup.
This is a very strong photo of my model, she is looking into the distance which lies more emphasis on her lips and not on her eyes. This is another potential for the final picture. I love the composition of this photo, the lighting and the pose of the model. I love how the neckline of her top is in the photo which gives the image a classic look and the necklace bring out the gold in the lips more, the way she isn't looking into the camera means that she may not have such an impact on the audience and isn't as eye catching as she isn't looking directly at them, however more emphasis would be on the product as they would be distracted by the eye contact of the model.
